As the unofficial historic capital of Malaysia, Malacca is a charming city with breathtaking sights and rich heritage from the 15th Century listed under UNESCO World Heritage.
We started our day in Malacca zoo known as the second largest zoo in Malaysia. The 22-hectare zoo was filled with a wide variety of animal habitats with an exceptionally green surrounding, giving a simulated rainforest look. The highlight of the zoo was their bird show.
Our second stop was at The vestiges of the old St. Pauls Cathedral can be found on the highest point of the hill Bukit St. Paul. The entrance to this hill is close to the famous Christ Church and the Stadhuys. It’s one of the best attraction sites to visit most preferably at the crack of dawn when it is still cool and calm. What struck me the most while wandering through the insides of the church was the natural ruins with unpainted depleted walls, as they were engraved with vertical tombstones; dating back to 1650s.
The third stop was the Maritime Museum, located along Quayside Road at the Malacca River. It is a replica of the Portuguese ship 'Flora de La Mar' which sank off the coast of Malacca on its way back to Portugal. Inside the museum, sculptures of famous people back in that time were used to portray the distinct eras that Malacca has gone through.
Our last stop was the Malacca River Cruise, which is an incredible approach to seeing the sights of Malacca at a comforting pace. It is a small speedboat which rides for around forty-five minutes in the river through past historic buildings, fascinating mangrove stands and churches. The river cruise ride gave me Venice vibe, and it took me completely by surprise to know that Malacca port was named as the Venice of the East at that time.
We ended the day trip hoping to visit this historical city to explore more!
